If you enjoy making your own pizzas you’ll totally love this easy tomato sauce recipe. Granted I have shared a similar recipe here but this has to be the easiest and uses just a handful of ingredients.
The key to making the perfect tomato sauce is blanching, peeling and blending the tomatoes. Sounds a bit tasking but trust me it’s totally worth it. Ensure the tomatoes are at their peak.
To blanch the tomatoes, add the tomatoes in boiling water and let them boil for 30 – 60 seconds then drain and put them in icy cold water. The skin will start to pull away and then you can easily peel them. I normally peel over running water.
Since the tomato sauce is used a base for various dishes from pizza to pasta, flavouring is key. Nothing too overpowering. I normally just flavour with garlic and my usual salt and black pepper.
Heat some oil and add the finely chopped garlic. Garlic can easily burn in case you aren’t careful and burnt garlic is quite bitter. You want the garlic to be fragrant before adding the tomatoes.
For the tomatoes, I just pulsed them in a blender to form some juice.
In the fragrant garlic, add the tomato juice.
Now set your timer for 30 minutes and wait as the sauce simmers to a rich red colour. Before you can start on your favorite series, add some sugar, yeah sugar. Tomatoes tend to be acidic and a little sugar tends to cut the acidity.
Halfway through the cooking time, taste and season the sauce accordingly with salt and black pepper.
Once done, the sauce will have a rich red colour and will have thicken a little bit. Now the sauce is ready for use either as a base for pizza or you can toss some it with some pasta and fresh basil. Sluuurp!
I used mine for pizza.
So there you have it, my go to easy tomato sauce recipe.
Try it, I guarantee you’ll love it.
