Baby Food: Potato and Leek

Happy New Year!

Feels good to be back to blogging, 2015 was pretty slow here but this year is gonna be awesome.

In late November last year, my daughter turned 6 months and finally I could start introducing other foods. I had purposed to exclusively breast feed her for 6 months. It wasn’t easy especially since my maternity leave ended when she was 3 months however I managed.

Quick question: Do you like bland food?

I guess not, well neither do babies.

I remember when we went for her 6 month check up, I was interested in finding out if it was ok to use spices in her food. Her Paed okayed the use of spices as long as they are natural and used in moderation.

I intend to share a few of the foods that I have introduced her to, currently she eats what we are having well minus the salt.

This recipe is pretty easy.

potato leek 1

I am currently loving leeks, they are great onion substitutes, heck they are in the onion family.

Chop up the leek, and finely chop the ginger.

potato leek 2

In a sufuria, heat some oil and fry the leek and ginger.

potato leek 3

Now cube the potatoes.

Cook the leek until it is fragrant.

potato leek 5

Add the potato cubes and stir.

potato leek 6

Cover and let the potatoes cook for a few minutes then add water. The water should be at the same level as the potatoes.

potato leek 7

Cover and let the potatoes cook until tender. The water will also have reduced.

The food is almost ready.

At this point, depending on your little one you can choose to serve as is, mash the food with a fork or blend. I chose to blend the food.

There you go,

Potato and leek.

She enjoyed the food.

Any one here weaning their little one? I would love to know what you have introduced.

  1. With my daughter, i make sure there’s a protein, carbohydrates n vegetables in her food. I just make sure the chicken or whatever meat i put is finely chopped. Plus, i never blended her food. I realized babies learn to chew faster when you just mash their food. Now she’s one year n even eats chapos hehe
