The final week of the Samsung blogger challenge is finally here. It’s been a wonderful month full of awesome challenges and for sure I have learnt a Β thing or two about microwave cooking. I sure hope you have found the recipes to be not only easy but also delicious.
This week’s mission was “Honey, what’s for dinner?” Β I settled on making fish and rice, today I share the brown rice recipe.
As you know by now I’ve been trying to incorporate healthier meals in my diet and with that I substituted white rice with brown rice. Brown rice is normally very filling nothing like the white counterpart.
I know cooking brown rice on a stove top can be rather challenging since I’ve heard complains that it takes long to cook but with a few tricks not only can you cook it on the stove top you can also make microwave brown rice π
I normally prefer soaking the rice in cold water for at least 30 minutes, this normally softens the rice grains aiding in the cooking process.
As the rice is soaking, you can be working on the accompaniment.
Once soaked, wash and rinse with cold water and drain. Put the rice in a deep microwave safe bowl.
Since I was using brown rice, the ratio for the water to rice used is 3 to 1.
Add the water, season with salt and add some oil, I used olive oil but you can use margarine or vegetable oil.
In the microwave it goes for 10 minutes on the highest power. For the Samsung Microwave Oven that power is 900 W.
After 10 minutes, the water will be cloudy as the cooking process has already began.
Put back in the microwave and cook at 50% power for an additional 25 minutes until the water has evaporated.
Once done, fluff with a fork and serve.
