Cheese and Onion Meatballs

Every once in a while I enjoy snacking on potato crisps and corn puffs. I mostly get the plain salted ones and for when I am feeling a bit adventurous I go for the cheese and onion flavour.

My inspiration for this recipe is cheese and onion potato crisps. Since I began baking meatballs instead of frying I always find them easier and faster to make not to mention they are healthier.

For this simple recipe, I used only a handful of ingredients since my main focus was to highlight the cheese and onion flavour. For dishes that I incorporate cheese I prefer using cheddar since I find it flavourful.

For the aromatics, just some garlic powder and the usual salt and black pepper.

As mentioned, this is such a simple dish to make and you can even get your children, nieces or nephews to assist.

In a huge bowl, add the minced meat and then add the onions.

Add the seasoning.

Next, add the breadcrumbs.

Here is a how to on homemade breadcrumbs.

Finally add the cheese.

Finally, I added some dried parsley leaves, totally optional.

Now the fun part, form into equal sized balls. To ensure uniformity I use an ice cream scoop to scoop out the mixture.

Line your baking sheet with some aluminium foil for easy clean up. Lightly oil the foil and arrange the prepared meatballs.

In a pre heated oven, bake the meatballs at 350 degrees F or 165 degrees C for 15 minutes.

Remove flip and cook the underside for 5 minutes.

Once done, feel free to feast on a meatball or two. I snacked on two 🙂 utterly delicious, the simple combination of the onions and cheese add the magical taste.

At this point you can choose to eat them as they are, make a sauce for them or simply store to eat later.

This time round, I made a simple marinara sauce to accompany the meatballs.

Once the sauce is done, toss in the meatballs to coat and warm up.

Serve and enjoy.

Side note, ever tried buying  flavoured pasta? If you look keenly at the pasta you’ll notice some green and orange coloured pasta, turns out they are flavoured.

When we were doing our monthly shopping, hubby  added the pasta into the cart. I just thought they were coloured. The green is supposed to be spinach flavoured while the orange coloured is paprika. Honestly, I didn’t enjoy the flavours, I prefer plain pasta.
